MLS Odds: David Beckham Fights in Galaxy’s Loss

Maybe David Beckham should play hockey.
The English superstar - tired after a flying back from London - played a full 90 minutes and got in a fight during the Los Angeles Galaxy’s 3-0 loss to Chivas USA Thursday night in Carlsbad, Calif.
Near the end of the first half, Beckham was tackled to the ground from behind by Jesse Marsch of Chivas. After getting up, Beckham did his best Gordie Howe, charging after Marsch, running him over and shouting for him to watch it next time. The encounter sparked a shoving match, highlighted by a head butt from Chivas’ Alex Zotinca to Kevin Harmse of Los Angeles. Harmse punched back and both were given red cards.
The crowd of 27,000 were delighted with the scrum, if not the outcome. Beckham and his $6.5-million salary haven’t equated to enough wins for the Galaxy, who are near the bottom of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.
Beckham, though, is hardly to blame. He has been playing tirelessly, competing for the England national team overseas and in the MLS. He had been off a flight for only six hours before entering the starting lineup for the Galaxy at Home Depot Center. He has played 90 minutes in three consecutive games over four days.
Chivas paid +185 for the win and the betting total went over 2.5 goals.
